Denise Lucero Lopez was born and raised in the North Valley of Albuquerque and has been practicing as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the metro and surrounding counties for almost 22 years. Most of her experience comes from the early intervention field serving children and their families in their homes and out in the community. After adopting children from the state of New Mexico, Denise pursued an education in the field of infant mental health and holds an endorsement as an infant mental health specialist. She also is knowledgeable in infant massage. She is highly cognizant of how a child’s development is influenced by the relationships they have with the people in the world around them. Denise is passionate about helping children overcome negative effects from adverse childhood experiences.
Through her experiences in the community, Denise has had the opportunity to work with children that have or are at risk of experiencing developmental delays. Some of these populations include children with delayed receptive or expressive language acquisition, multiples, oral-motor/feeding difficulties, Down Syndrome, auditory processing delays, cleft lip and palate, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and difficulties with attachment. Denise enjoys exploring strategies with families that are not only functional but fun! She believes in working from a play-based approach and often incorporates sensory play into her sessions.
Denise is also the mother to six very unique kids that have taught her the importance of flexibility and perseverance. She enjoys dancing, doing crafts, reading, singing with her kids, and has an obscene collection of children’s books.
